Homeowners insurance is a fantastic resource to happen, especially if you own a home in an area where natural disasters may threaten said home. While it’s infrequent that it comes into play, it’s a wonderful safety net to rely on for those “just in case” moments. However, as with all insurances, you should go into it with a healthy list of must-knows.

  1. Compare rates because you might end up paying too much.
  2. Understand what is and isn’t covered.
  3. Flood insurance can help even those who aren’t right next to the water.
  4. Certain animal damage (such as rats, raccoons, etc.) may not be covered in your plan.
  5. As with most insurances or loans, your credit score could make your rate fluctuate.
